NUVO 2009 - Atlanta
Rhythm Dance Center's EDGE dancers
attended NUVO Convention and Competition January 23- 25
held downtown at the Westin Atlanta. It was an
exciting weekend full of lots of talented dancers from
all over the south east. Rhythm's Senior Edge
piece, Find A Way, choreographed by Bobby
Newberry received the highest award - DJ's PICK - an
almost perfect score. It was also selected as a
Senior Best of Jump pick. Our Junior piece -
Sleepyhead, choreographed
by Allison Schultz, also received
Junior Best of Jump.
MTV MADE shoots at Rhythm Dance
Center...Ladies Man
Check out the link below to see
MTV at Rhythm Dance Center. MTV spent an evening
at Rhythm in the fall shooting for the episode "Ladies
Man". It didn't make it into the 30 minute
episode, but is on the MTV website. Betsy Woyach,
Rhythm alum, is teaching our Senior Edge dancers as well
as Richard (the potential Ladies Man) the class!
She is currently working as a dancer/choreographer in
LA, so it was fun to have her back for this shoot!

CO DANCE - CHICAGO 2009
Senior Edge traveled to Chicago
for CO DANCE - it was a fun, snowy weekend!
Congrats to IN THE GARDEN, choreographed by Joey Dowling
- won the Senior High Score, Highest Open Score, Best
Concept and Faculty Choice Award. PROMMM
choreographed by Kevin Maher, won Highest Hip Hop Score,
and Best Costume. AIN'T SHE SWEET choreographed by
Becca and Dani won Highest Jazz Score, FUNKY STUFF
choreographed by Katie Carroll won Highest Tap Score.
Scholarship winners were Alison Swoish, Erin Cronin,
Joya Johnson, Katherine Levy, Khadijah Wilson.
Joya Johnson and Katherine Levy also won the LA Agent
award. Becca and Dani won the EDUCATOR AWARD, for
being the Outstanding Teachers of the weekend.
DANCING IN A RHYTHM WONDERLAND
Rhythm Dance Center had it's 2nd
Annual Holiday Show at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center
in December. It was a Performing Company Preview
with a few fun Holiday numbers! It was a great
start to the year! Congrats to all CONNECTION,
VIBE, and EDGE Dancers for a great show.
ATLANTA BALLET'S NUTCRACKER
JUNIOR EDGE dancers Jessica Elek,
Miyah Henderson and Erica Radermacher were all chosen to
dance in The Atlanta Ballet's NUTCRACKER at the Fox
Theater. Erica was a Party Child and Jessica and
Miyah were in the Infantry! Congrats girls, we are
proud of you all!
2008 JDRF WALK FOR DIABETES
Rhythm Dance Center once again
supported JDRF in their annual Walk For Diabetes in
honor of Rhythm Connection dancer, Mackenzie Laushey.
We started with a fun fundraiser at RDC a "ROCK" themed
Dinner and a Movie night. At the walk, our
CONNECTION dancers started off the day with an
OUTSTANDING and ENERGETIC performance for all the
walkers in Centennial Park! Congrats to Beth
Thomas, Connection Director and all the AWESOME
CONNECTION dancers for such a great performance!
WELCOME BACK TO DANCE!
We had a busy summer of 2008! Our dancers traveled
to Los Angeles, CA for JUMP Nationals, Disneyland
Performance, and lots of dance classes. We are
excited to be back in full swing now and look forward to
a great 16th season.
Highlights from JUMP NATIONALS in
LOS ANGELES...Congrats to Marley Fiveash - TOP TEN VIP
DANCERS! Laura Aronoff - TOP TEN VIP DANCERS!
Music Box - BEST OF JUMP! House of Fun - TOP THREE
SPECIALTY. Many more routines received High Score
placement. It was an inspiring
week with some of the top
studios in the nation attending! We are SO proud
of all our dancers and what
they achieved during this exciting week.
VIBE Performing Company finished
off their season with an exciting performance at
DISNEYLAND in Anaheim, CA. We had a great time
seeing the sights of Hollywood and
taking some great classes in L.A.
Rhythm Senior Edge dancer
Joya Johnson spent three weeks in NYC at the prestigious
Juilliard School for their Summer Intensive. Joya
was one of 22 dancers accepted into the Summer program.
We expect great things from JOYA! Congrats!
CONGRATS to Senior Edge
dancer, Katherine Levy who is now an APPRENTICE for the
CO DANCE Convention. She will be a leader and
mentor to other dancers on the Assistant Teacher Program
for CO DANCE. Katherine was an ATA last season,
and only a few dancers were chosen for the APPRENTICE
program.
2007-2008
We will be
performing at the
ATLANTA HAWKS
game on
Tuesday, December 4th
when the Hawks play the Detroit Pistons. Come out
to support our EDGE and VIBE dancers. They will be
performing in the Pre Show and Half Time!
Rhythm's own SAKINAH LESTAGE
is still touring with NEYO, as well as teaching for us
when she is in town. She recently choreographed a
video for a young artist - Asia - and booked Senior Edge
members Joya Johnson and Katherine Levy for the shoot!

Montalbetti has been busy shooting several commercials
for
Cracker Barrel and McDonalds.
She was also in The Wizard of Oz at The Fox Theater
in August!
Rhythm Dance Center has had a full
fall season of guest teachers and choreographers!
Kevin Maher, Joey Dowling, Jusitn
Giles, Bobby Newberry, Chebar Williams, Tucker Barkley,
Ben Allen, Kevin Wilson, Khasan Brailsford, and Jessica
Starr have all shared their talents with our dancers
this fall!
We would like to
welcome our newest faculty member, Miss Alicia Lee.
She joins Rhythm as a full time ballet instructor.
Alicia recently moved to the Atlanta area from Illinois
to dance professionally with The Georgia Ballet.
Alicia holds a BFA in Dance from Butler University and
has trained at The Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, Oregon
Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, Kirov Academy, Columbia
Dance Ensemble, and Ballet Rotaru.
Our 2nd REEL
dance/video camp was a huge success! The theme was
THE BIG BREAK.
Filmed and edited by RDC Alum Allison Schultz, over 50
dancers learned choreography and performed it at various
locations around Atlanta to result in an hour long dance
video. The Reel was Produced and
directed by Becca, Dani, and Allison. Reel was
choreographed by Katie Carroll, Tonya Hughes, Beth Mason, Becca Moore,
Dani Rosenberg, Allison Schultz, and Julianne Stevens,
and AJ Skeen.
Dates for next summer will be announced this fall.
This unique event is a must for Summer 2008! Check

CONGRATS to Rhythm
Dance Center EDGE and VIBE dancers for performing in the
opening of the SALUTE 2 AMERICA Parade on WSB on July
4th - it was an amazing experience and all the dancers
looked great.
Congrats to our VIBE Performing Company for their final
2006 - 2007 performance aboard Carnival Cruise Lines
ship - Inspiration! We sailed to Cozumel and
performed a 30 minute show on the ship in The Paris
Lounge for a packed audience and received rave reviews
from all.

tour: January 2007
Congrats to
the Senior Edge and the routine "SHOWDOWN"

performed at the PULSE on tour showcase on January 20th
to rave reviews by Brian Friedman, Mia Michaels, Cris
Judd, and more. "SHOWDOWN"
was selected as a "Choreography Pick" and were
asked to perform thier routine again at the showcase on
Sunday.

is now open on the "new side" of Rhythm! We are
now carrying KATRINA, and have dance shoes, tights,

current hours are: Monday 3 - 8, Tuesday 11 - 7,
Wednesday 1 - 8, Thursday 3 - 8. Beginning
in April we will have extended hours for all your

We
have been very busy the past few months, we attended
Company Dance in Birmingham, Onstage New York,
Bounce, and Jump! It has been a fun and successful
competition season so far!

were accepted to American Ballet Theatre's Summer
program!

They recently auditioned for CLEAR TALENT GROUP (who is

Chebar's credits and training include the

danced in the television series
FAME LA.
She currently teaches nationally and internationally,
and resides in Los Angeles. We are so honored to
have her at RDC several times a year!

CHUCK MALDONADO was at RDC
teaching on August 6 & 7! He was most recently
featured in Missy Elliott's
"Lose Control" video as
well as performed live with her on the BET Awards.
Chuck was featured in several

HE has worked with
Kanye West, Missy Elliott, Mya,
Pink, Usher, Jennifer Lopez, and
many more. We are so excited

as well as on the movie previews in September at PHIPPS
PLAZA. They recently shot the commercial in
Piedmont Park. All the dancing feet you see belong

her spare time, she is pursuing a singing career and
teaching here at RHYTHM. Multi-talented!
RDC Senior Company Member,
CARLTON REBEIZ was a featured a dancer on the
televised Miss GA pageant in June 2005. This was
the 2nd consecutive year he has worked as a dancer at
Miss GA.

Aronoff was recently in NYC competing at
JUMP for VIP dancer of the
year. She made the TOP 10!

Junior Company Member Eli
Goodstein attended CO DANCE
Nationals in Orlando where he was selected as a
scholarship winner to perform on the opening number of
their National TV show!

Teen Company member Erin
Cronin competed her solos in Myrtle Beach in July
2005 at Star Systems Nationals. She won
1st Place HIGH SCORE ELITE JUNIOR SOLOIST!

2004 RDC NEWS....
Becca
and Dani and the RDC Senior Company were in
London, England
in October 2004 performing at
Sadlers Wells Theater
where they were honored for their outstanding
fundraising for Dancers Responding to Aids. After
winning the Critics Choice Award at New York City Dance
Alliance for "The Ritz", a jazz piece choreographed by
Becca and Dani, they earned the opportunity to fundraise
with other elite companies from across the country.
Rhythm Dance Center raised
almost $25,000 in six weeks for DRA!
We were announced as the winners in New York City last
summer. It was an amazing experience! Look
for our picture in the November issue of
Dance Spirit Magazine!!
We would like to thank everyone from RDC and Cobb County
who donated to this cause and helped us!

PRETTY GIRL! They won
Battle of the Stars in Myrtle Beach, SC in July 2004.
Pretty Girl was choreographed by Tonya Hughes. We
had a great week in Myrtle Beach! We had 7
routines in BATTLE OF THE STARS, The Ritz, Let You Go,
Pretty Girl, Stop, Look and Listen, Wo, The Show, &
Mixing It Up! Our Junior Trio, SOPHISTICATED
LADIES also won TOP OVERALL JUNIOR TRIO! Congrats
to everyone for an awesome week!

also had 3 MISS STARPOWER winners! Julianne
Stevens won Senior Miss Starpower, Sofia Montalbetti won
Petite Miss Starpower, and pictured here is Joya Johnson
who won Junior Miss Starpower!
